HD 1080p Televisions

HD 1080p TelevisionsWhen we hear the term 1080p, 1080p LCD or 1080p Plasma, it is in fact referring to High Definition Television, commonly reffered to as just HD or HDTV. HD 1080p televisions are the most popular type of television on the market today due to their superior viewing quality and performance. The number 1080 specifically refers to the total number of vertical lines that runs across the screen, whilst the letter P simply refers to the image being a progressive scan and not interlaced. HD 1080p televisions come in either LCD or Plasma format.

Upon first entering the market several years ago, HD 1080p televisions were seen out of the range of many people due significantly to their very high costs. It wasn’t uncommon then to pay several thousand pounds for an HD 1080p television. However, with large competition today amongst many leading manufacturers, great deals can be found on most brands of HD 1080p televisions, with some costing at least 50% or more less than when they first came into the market several years ago.

Plasma versus LCD HD 1080p Televisions
Some industry experts are now strongly debating the future direction of HD 1080p televisions, with manufacturers eagerly watching on, knowing that future sales figures will depend entirely upon consumer demand. HD 1080p televisions are here to stay, but the question on everyone’s lips is which format will survive, LCD or Plasma?

Plasma format was once seen as the dominant market leader in the sales of HD 1080p televisions. However, recent high demand and popularity has seen demand in Plasma HD 1080p televisions drop considerably, with some manufactures such as Hitachi and Pioneer opting out of manufacturing Plasma HD 1080p televisions all together. Analysts have seen this as a clear indication that LCD HD 1080p televisions will become the consumers preferred choice.

LCD 1080p televisions are now seen as the dominant marker leader due to their much lower energy consumption over that of Plasmas, and the fact that they are considerably thinner and lighter has increased their popularity.

For many people the choice between purchasing a HD 1080p television will be determined by price. Although LCD 1080p televisions are proving to be more popular than Plasma 1080p televisions, larger Plasmas are considerably cheaper than smaller LCD televisions, so for what you may pay for a 55 inch Plasma, you may only be able to afford a 40 inch LCD. Some people also argue that they are unable to detect any great difference in viewing quality through either format of HD 1080p television formats.
