The most popular choice in 1080p televisions is either the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) or Plasma formats. This has caused some retailers to offer large discounts on Plasma 1080p televisions just to sell existing stock on their shelves. Savings of up to 30 to 40 % off the recommended retail price are not uncommon on current models.

Recent sales figures released by industry market researchers have shown a significant decline in both the manufacturing and sales figures of the once leading choice of Plasma1080p television format.
